What happens when sprinklers get old?

NOTE: This information is from a previously printed press release, newsletter, or other dated document. It is presented here for archival purposes only.

1999: When the operation of sprinklers becomes questionable due to age, mishandling or environmental conditions, a building owner has two options. One is complete replacement of all of the sprinklers in the system. A more cost-effective alternative is laboratory testing of sprinklers sampled from the system.

UL has been testing sprinklers sampled from field installations for more than 40 years - for regulatory authorities, the insurance industry, property owners and the sprinkler industry. A UL report on the test results of field-sampled sprinklers can help these groups assess the effectiveness of a sprinkler system and the need to replace sprinklers currently in service.

For more information on this program, you can request a copy of the brochure Field Sample Testing of Automatic Sprinklers (200-123), by calling +1-847-272-8800, ext. 43731; by fax at +1-847-509-6235; or sending e-mail to literature@us.ul.com.
